o.k. boys (including nate berkus) and girls...here's the dining room cupboard reveal i hinted at last month. my hubbie made this cupboard for me 3 houses ago and it's was stained this honey pine color. i liked it for such a long time- but i got a wild hair to paint it a fun new color this spring. first it was going to be black. then cream. then i decided to go big or go home and just went for it!!!
i used annie sloan chalk paint in a duck egg blue. (note: this does not mean it's chalk board paint- it's a new wonder paint in the decorating world- you don't have to do ONE thing to prep the piece you're working on other than dust it)
it goes on real quick and you can be messy- in fact the directions say paint in all directions- i just basically slapped it on. if there's one thing that defines me and a project- it's do it and get it done as fast as possible. girlfriend has no patience for tedium. i like to start a project and have it done by bedtime. that's why none of you will ever get a hand knit sweater from me. a headband maybe- but anything more laborious than that and you've lost me.
i'm not going to pretend like i loved it immediately. in fact i started and then stepped back and thought "oh dear Lord- i've really missed the mark this time". there was no turning back though and the paint costs a small fortune so i finished and then after an overnight of drying i put the drawers and doors back on and started accessorizing and you know what? i love it now! i want to get some fun new hardware and wax it still but it's fresh and cottagy and a fun change.
*when lars saw it he didn't say anything. (i hadn't told him i was going to paint it). the next day i said "did you notice i painted the cupboard in the dining room? duh-it pritnear slaps you when you walk by it to get to the kitchen, and he replied "yes... i really wish you hadn't done that to it, but hey i guess you're the decorator" haha love me a good man who let's his roommate do the decorating!!! he hasn't said one thing about it since. he's probably loving it too don't you think?
